Sandford heritage: have your say

The Sandford Heritage Project has ended and a Sandford Heritage Community Group has been established with the initial aim of applying for funds for future projects. The group is holding a public meeting on Monday 4th February, 7pm, Sandford Community Hall under the theme "Sandford Heritage: what we hope to do with your donations."

Please come to this meeting to help finalise plans for future projects. Come and help decide what is included in funding applications and how we plan to use your donations given for the Sandford Heritage Project book "Sandford Heritage: History and Wildlife of a Dorset Parish" as part of the fundraising for a future project. We need your support for the project ideas we are working on and need to find out what will help you take part in them. Do you want to find out about the names on the war memorial? Would you like to learn how to identify tiger beetles? Could you help type up wildlife information on to the website (with training)? Can you help run a coffee morning fundraiser or help with refreshments at events?

The meeting will be followed by a screening of the film about the cordite factory, CORDITE!(40 minute version) made by John Hale.

Refreshments will be available, also copies of the project book. Entrance is free.

Some ideas for a new project, generated by our local community, build on work started in the previous project, and include:

- a series of heritage trails in the area, with information on wildlife and history, either on-site or in leaflets, podcasts, etc. Trails could take in Sandford Heath, Great Ovens Heath and other areas

- wildlife identification events, some held in partnership with Dorset Wildlife Trust; wildlife recording; wildlife gardening advice

- historical projects on documenting the schools, researching Sandford families using the names on the war memorial as a starting point

- photography projects involving younger people

The Sandford Heritage Community Group has already submitted a bid for funding some of the above, using some of the money donated for the project book. Come and find out how we plan to raise further funds. Come and be part of the future of heritage in Sandford. Sign up to receive emails about events and developments.
